Wine Tasting
There are numerous wineries around San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles.
Paso Robles
The Paso Robles American Viticultural Area is best known for its Rhône varietals including Syrah, Viognier, and Roussanne. The number of wineries in and around Paso Robles has grown dramatically in the past 20 years, and now it is California’s third largest wine region. Wineries have sprung up all over the area, but many, including Eos, Robert Hall, Eberle, Meridian, and Tobin James can be found along state highway 46 to the east of Paso’s downtown. You can also sign up for shuttle tours of Paso Robles Wineries.
San Luis Obispo
The San Luis Obispo wine region encompasses the Edna Valley, Arroyo Grande Valley, and Avila Valley viticulture areas. The mostly small wineries in this area are best known for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, and Zinfandel.
Some of our favorite wineries are located in this area. In particular, Edna Valley Vineyard offers very nice wine and a spectacular view of Islay Peak from the tasting room. You will probably be able to taste some Edna Valley wine at the wedding. Salisbury Vineyards is located in a 101 year old school house off of highway 101 and makes Jessica’s Dad’s favorite late harvest Zinfandel. Not far from Salisbury, you can head up scenic See Canyon, famous for its apple orchards, to Kelsey See Canyon Winery, where they have some wines mixed with apple and where we once saw peacocks!
Wineries Beyond
If you have time to travel further south towards Santa Barbara, you will reach the wine country featured in the movie Sideways. These wineries, near the scenic towns of Los Olivos and Solvang, are most famous for their Pinot Noir.
